Aidan's Journey

Aidan's journey began on Monday, Dec 3rd 2007 when we received a phone call that came so unexpectedly. After leaving work, we received a panicked phone call from the Kaiser Peds staff saying that at that moment his blood panels had come back from a check up that morning and Aidan was critically anemic. Do not stop for anything-dinner, clothes, nada. Drive directly to the ER and check right in. The blood tests he had taken earlier that day revealed that every part of his blood test-hemoglobin, white and red cells etc were critically low and further tests needed to be done asap. Hours later he was given two units of blood and platelets. The next morning tests confirmed our worst fears. Aidan's blood was full of cancer as he was diagnosed Tuesday night with Leukemia (Acute Myeloid Leukemia).

Dr. Ruki's visit

Well, Aidan had a good visit from oncologist, Dr. Ruki today. Her hope is that we will be able to leave by Friday or Saturday for a week or so. Aidan's neutrophil(his healthy white blood cells) count was 20 yesterday and 30 today. He has to get up to 1000 to leave so everyone praying-the prayer for the week is for neutrophils. Apparently, once these little guys get going they can multiply pretty fast...fingers crossed. By Jan 2 we will be back here at the hospital for round 2 chemo so please keep the prayers coming. Aidan has an army of amazing people behind him and trust me we feel it and it's working.

Thank you to all the cards and gifts pouring into the hospital. The staff thinks they have a child celebrity in their midst and i think they do!!!

Aidan's funny quote for the day...

MOM: Aidan what would you like to say to everyone who is praying for you and sending you cards and gifts???

Aidan: Ummmm....Thank you?

MOM: Yes Aidan, anything else?

Aidan: Ummmm....God Bless America?

MOM: Thanks Aidan, real funny.

Hi Aidan,

Your South Carolina "mojo" is on the way. I am hopeful that you are going to be home for Christmas, so I sent it to your home address rather than the hospital. Give hugs to your mom, papa, and nana for me. [You can give them to anyone else you would like to for me, but they may wonder what strange woman is sending them hugs;)] Here is a big Christmas wish that you have a wonderful holiday with your family and that the new year brings lots of good news. Keep smiling that beautiful smile.

Kathy (Patterson)
